I'm not a huge supporter of the government. You all know this. And I'm not a fan of most foreign activities "we" engage in as a country. But maintaining embassies IS part of governmental duties. And maintaining their security is a duty of our government, our military, and specifically, the US Marines. I'm not sure why this consulate had LIBYAN security rather than US Marines. I'm not sure why it wasn't defended adequately. But one thing I AM sure of is that WE, the People, do NOT need to apologize for "Hurting the religious feelings of Muslims". Yes, you read that right. Our State Department issued those words as part of their first statement about this event. Terrorists invade our consulate (which is US soil under international law), kill our ambassador, and reportedly drag his body through the streets, take our flag down, and raise the a flag the Taliban uses in it's place. All over a YouTube video. and WE apologize. To be fair, Obama didn't continue the apology. But he hasn't denounced the apology. He hasn't expressed outrage over the attack there and in Egypt over the same thing. All he has done is express his "Sorrow" for the families of the victims, and his "Support" for them.
Among the demands of the terrorists who committed these acts of war is an immediate ban of the video. IF we comply (and it will not surprise me if we do), we will have AGAIN violated our Constitution in response to terrorist activities. of course, since this time it's the 1st Amendment rather than the 2nd and 4th, perhaps the left will be outraged. Of course, since the left ALSO tends to blame any terrorist attacks on the victims rather than the terrorists (unless the terrorists are white Americans), they may well support the terrorists or express "understandong of their reasons for these actions." We'll just have to see. But what I do not understand is why we even apologized at all. It does not matter what was posted on YouTube. There is no legitimate excuse for initiating violence against others. Their actions were not in self defense. A California resident, who by birth is an Egyptian Muslim, made a video that offended their religious views. So what? Religion is supposed to be about your god and your belief in him/her/it. And it is your Constitutional right to believe in whatever fairytale you choose. Just as it is your Constitutional right to express your views of any religion, even if others disagree with your views. It is not supposed to be about killing people for NOT believing in your deity of choice.
I get it. These fanatic asswipes have taken the pronouncements of their faith to spread Islam by the sword as granting them the right to kill others to accomplish this. I understand that because their faith includes a legal system that is supposed to be enforced, they feel they have a right to kill to force compliance, even from those who do not believe the same things they do. But these fanatic asswipes have forgotten one simple thing. America isn't Europe. We will, for a period, allow our government to roll along, apologizing for this and bowing to that. But at heart, WE, TOO, are a bit fanatic ourselves. These people will eventually push us too far. When they do, America will OVERREACT. after we are done, we will regret it. But if Islam pushes us too far, we can and will wipe their asses up. I do not want to see this. Islam has some excellent points. It is the ONLY religion that specifically prohibits racial prejudice. It has always stressed education. At least, until recently, where it stressed only learning to read the Koran. And OUR Constitution guarantees them the right to practice their faith, as long as they do not violate our laws by forcing others into their faith. But eventually, Americans is going to get pissed off. And we have a record of violating our own Constitution in the pursuit of revenge. And this time, instead of a few terrorists, and a lot of Americans, getting their rights violated, it will be the entire Muslim world. because, as a Muslim General once proclaimed, "Kill them all. Surely, Allah shall know his own!" We take a while to get that pissed, but we cetainly CAN AND WILL learn the lessons of history. Don't make us do it. I don't want MY kids to die fighting these assholes. I don't want THEIR kids dying because of extremists.
